The Speed Paradox

Also called: compact step, shrink to go faster, speed paradox

Definition

At fast tempos you move quicker by making steps smaller, because velocity equals step frequency times step length so shorter steps allow higher cadence, while keeping the center of mass traveling level and the feet under the hips. The applied plan above roughly 170 BPM is to reduce step size by about 30-40%, keep feet within hip-width, and glide weight level from foot to foot.
