What This Module Trains π―
Hearing the timbales, and two moves for them.
The Instrument π₯
- Timbales. It's these two drums that are mounted and you play with sticks.
- Cencerro. You usually have a cowbell that's mounted on top that's called the cencerro.
- Timbalero. The Timbalero is sort of the king of the freestyle.
- Descarga. It's the part of the music where the Timbalero is going to be improvising.
- Cascara. A rhythm where the Timbalero is going to hit the side of the timbale with the stick.
- Syncopated heel. I'm gonna just tap my heel on 5.
- Despelote. Your caballo step, but now we're gonna be rolling our hips counterclockwise.
How the Drill Runs π
- Basic. Heel: 1 2 3 4 and 5.
- Despelote. Basic, then 5 6, drop, 1, roll.
- Basic, one more time.
Technique Cues π‘
- Twist the knee out, it gives more effect than the hips.
- Roll the chest, left forward, right back.
- Highlight the cascara only when it is pronounced.
π‘ Drill it: heel for the cascara, Despelote for the cencerro.
