What This Module Trains 🎯
Hear the bass. Dance the Son Step from the Conga module with two arm stylings.
The Instrument 🥁
- Bass. The bass can either be the electric bass or it can be like the big contrabass, depending on the band and the time.
- Contratempo. The bass is highlighting the upbeat, so it is a contratempo instrument.
- Tumbao. The tumbao is bum, bum, bum, bum, 8 2 4 6 8.
- Smooth. The key here is that the bass is a smooth instrument.
- Syncopated. In Salsa music it is going to play a syncopated rhythm, all sorts of variations of a tumbao rhythm.
- Counts. It highlights 8 2 4 6 8; the accents are on 4 and 8, 90% of the time.
- Son arms. This is the traditional son arms and it is just going to be a circle here of the arms.
How the Drill Runs 🔁
- Son Step to music: 8, 2 3 4, 6 7 8, with the swipe.
- Switch to the son arms.
Technique Cues 💡
- Start with the elbow.
- Twist your body right; the arm follows elbow to hand.
- Son arms: circle clockwise, step on the spot.
💡 Drill it: two arm stylings to really highlight that bass.
