Suzy Q 1, Crossing With Swag 🔥
Before the Suzy Q, you learn the chord step: a cross on the downbeats, 1, 3, 5, 7.
The Hip Twist Is Everything 🎯
Cross with your hips twisted while your upper body faces front. Belt buckle points to the side, chest stays forward. That's what makes the cross compact, fast, and smooth.
Keep It Small
In a mirror, your front knee covers your back leg but your foot only just crosses in front. The twist creates the depth, not a big step.
The Passé Entry 💃
Curl the knee up first, then cross. Knee-driven, not a leg swing. Faster, safer, and it sets you up for every Salsa move after this one.
Weight Stays Forward
The Suzy Q pattern: cross, back, cross. Back step lands on the toe only so your weight stays over the front leg. Twist the hips on every count (1, 2, 3 / 5, 6, 7) and the step comes alive.
🧠 Twisting hips while staying square-on feels strange at first. Keep going, it's the same mechanic you'll use for the rest of Mambo.
