Flares 🔥
A Flare is a tap away from the body, no weight change. Weight stays on your standing leg until you actively step.
How to Execute
Originates from the knee. Bend the knee, direct it where you want the Flare to go (front or side), then extend the leg out in a clean straight line. Think: crushing a bug on the floor, energy drives down. No sweeping, no dragging.
Straight leg, pointed foot. A beautiful Flare is fully extended with a pointed foot. Your body will adapt the more you commit. 💡
Tres Tres, Your Foundation Combo
The pattern: Flare front on 1 → Flare side on 2 (with contraposition in your upper body) → Cross on 3. Repeat on the other side.
Notice how your upper body twists opposite to your moving leg, that contraposition is what gives the move its dynamic quality. 🎯
The Chassé, Your First Syncopation
Stepping on the "and 1" instead of squarely on beat 1. This adds flow and rhythmic variation.
Deeper knee bend = bigger, more dramatic Flare. Keep it small for fast music. Go deep on slow tracks to show it off.
🔬 Contraposition (upper and lower body twisting in opposition) is a natural human movement pattern. It's what makes the Flare look effortless rather than mechanical.
