What This Module Trains π―
Body movement for your salsa: the hip, the rib cage, then both in opposition.
The Moves π§
Lesson 1.
Hip Movement. Knees bent, feet shoulder width apart, your hip goes side to side: right, left, right.
- On the and before each step, your hip goes to the side opposite the stepping leg.
- Back step: hip to the front. Front step: hip to the back.
Rib Cage Movement. Your rib cage slides side to side, opposite to your hip.
- On your left leg, the hip goes right and the shoulder left.
- Then rotate to accentuate the shoulder. It comes from the rib cage, it is not a shimmy.
Opposition. Hip and rib cage together, always opposite ways.
How the Drill Runs π
- Hips alone, on the spot
- Hips with your basic, side, back and front step
- Rib cage, then with the rotation
- Both in opposition, through the same steps
- Everything again from the back
Technique Cues π‘
- Bend your knees, keep your shoulders down.
- Small steps, always under your body.
π‘ Drill it: 5 to 10 minutes a day.
