Where It Comes From πŸ”Œ

The Enchufa, also said as Enchufla, is one of the most common things you do straight after a Breakback.

Like the Cross Body Lead, you get out of the line. The difference is the side:

Cross Body Lead goes to the right line. The Enchufa goes to the left.

You change sides, and you cross each other on the way.

Lead: Steps and Technique πŸ•Ί

  • 5 6 7 basic, 1 2 3, Breakback, 5 6
  • on 7, get out of the way to your left, and let her walk
  • she steps on 1, and you cross each other
  • on 3 you get back in the line, exactly like a Cross Body Lead

The tension is what allows her to step. Keep your hand in her frame so she can finish the turn. You are not turning her. You could turn her, with a prep and multiple turns, but not here. Here you let her walk.

If you dance Lindy Hop this will feel familiar, except there you would let go. Here you keep hold and stay close. That is the rule for this one.

Follower: Steps and Technique πŸ’ƒ

  • maintain your basic steps the whole way through, 1 2 3, 5 6 7
  • hold your free arm up in position, not dropped in the habitual way

πŸ’‘ Drill it: Try it from both sides. If you find yourself drifting apart, you have lost the stay-close rule that separates this from the Lindy version.

Practice without judging yourself. Every dancer started exactly where you are. Be patient. This lands in the body over months, not days. Record yourself. You will see things you cannot feel. Post it in the community tab, or on Instagram tagging the page.
