A Position, Not A Step 🚢
The Titanic is a position: she ends up in front of you and you are behind her.
Why is it called the Titanic? Honestly, I am not sure. But that is the name for the position.
There are two related positions here, this one and the shadow position, and we cover both. The shadow position is the same as the Titanic but to the opposite side: you stand on her left, with a left to left arm connection.
Lead: Steps and Technique 🕺
You get in through an Inside Turn, but with a right to right connection rather than the one you are used to.
- 5 6 7, 1 2 3, 5 6
- prep on 1, 2, and go into the Inside Turn
- then, instead of letting her complete a full turn, you block with the other hand on 5
That block is the Titanic.
From there you step forward on 6, 7, then start walking back.
Getting out: there are many options. The classic exit is a Right Turn, 5 6 7, 1 2 3.
Into shadow position: 5 6 7, 1 2 3, then 6 7, going back on 1, bringing her with you. The twist here is the important part, and it is the same preparation you used for the check going into Axle Turns.
💡 Drill it: Practise the block on 5 on its own. Too much and you stop her dead, too little and she completes the turn and the position never happens.
