The Cornerstone Move π§±
This is the cornerstone move of Cross Body Lead Salsa, and the style is named after it.
Everything else you have learned stays on the line. That is why it is called line Salsa. Turns, basics, all of it happens on that one line.
Here, for the first time, I leave the line. She stays on it, and walks across to the other side. That is the whole idea.
Lead: Steps and Technique πΊ
Imagine three lines on the floor. The middle one belongs to the Follower, that is where your basic lives. There is a line to your right and one to your left.
- basic, 5, 6
- it starts on 7: open out towards your right line
- Do not step back. Step to the side.
- on 1, open your body so you are really facing the middle
- then close into Close Position, the same connection as the Son Step, and step 1 2 3
The move is you getting out of her way and inviting her across, nothing more.
Follower: Steps and Technique π
You keep your basic and you feel him inviting you to walk forward.
- basic through 1 2 3, 5, 6
- step 1, 2, and on 3 into 5 you start to rotate and change your spot
- back on 6, 7
- keep that new front
You walk extra straight across. The rotation is what leaves you facing the new direction, ready to carry on in the basic.
π‘ Drill it: Leads, check you are stepping to the side on 7 and not backwards. Stepping back is the most common way this move collapses.
π― Community
Practice without judging yourself. Every dancer started exactly where you are. Be patient. This lands in the body over months, not days. Record yourself. You will see things you cannot feel. Post it in the community tab, or on Instagram tagging the page.
