What This Module Trains π―
Shi-Ka-Boom. The actual name of this move has been called so many different things, but it has an official name in jazz dancing, which is the Shi-Ka-Boom. The most used move after the basic step.
The Move π§
Flares. When you are doing your Flares you want sharpness in the movement, you are not putting weight, it is like a kick.
- Levels. I go 8 and 1, 2, down, 4 and 5, 6, down, 8 and 1, and think that you are throwing something here.
- Kick and click. Number two is I like to kick sometimes and click: Flares here, boom boom on the floor, like kicking the floor, and sometimes I like to make it more up, so I am kicking up.
How the Drill Runs π
- Basic Shi-Ka-Boom from 8 and 1: cross, Flares, open, open.
- Now down. Kick, down, basic.
- Now clicks and kicks, angle your body.
Technique Cues π‘
- I am kicking, not dragging.
- Opposite body to the legs.
- Little arc on the floor.
π‘ Drill it: one side, then mirror. Levels and clicks last.
π― Community
Practice without judging yourself. Every dancer started exactly where you are. Be patient. This lands in the body over months, not days. Record yourself. You will see things you cannot feel. Post it in the community tab, or on Instagram tagging the page.
