What This Module Trains π―
The Mambo Jazz, slow and syncopated, a move you use to hit accents.
The Moves π§
Lesson 1.
Mambo Jazz. A kick, step, flare: kick with the right on 5, step with the right on 6, flare with the left on 7, then step your basic on 1.
- Angle to your left diagonal on 3, then turn your body to the right as you flare.
- The flare takes no weight: your weight stays on the right.
Lesson 2.
Syncopated Mambo Jazz. The regular Mambo Jazz, at double speed: kick on 4, step on the and, flare on 5.
- No break: it starts directly on 4.
How the Drill Runs π
- Mambo Jazz, slow, kick on 5
- Syncopated Mambo Jazz, kick on 4
- Both again from the back
Technique Cues π‘
- Kick from the knee, sharp, leg straight, toe pointed.
- Three things: change of angle, drop, arms. Cross as you step, open on the flare.
- Hands higher than your elbows, strong palms, fingers straight.
- Keep it small and bend your knees.
π‘ Drill it: use the slow version to practice your technique.
π― Community
Practice without judging yourself. Every dancer started exactly where you are. Be patient. This lands in the body over months, not days. Record yourself. You will see things you cannot feel. Post it in the community tab, or on Instagram tagging the page.
