Toe Heel Toe, Dancing on Every Beat 🎵
You're stepping on counts that are normally held. This is a significant jump from your basic taps, and it will prepare you beautifully for intermediate work.
The Sequence
| Count | Action |
|---|---|
| 8 | Tap (toe) |
| 1 | Heel strike |
| 2 | Tap (toe) |
| 3 | Step, transfer weight |
Repeat on the other side. Four beats. No gaps.
Technique: Press Into the Floor
Punch a bug on the ground. Deliberate and grounded. For the heel strike on count 1: extend your knee, curl your toes up, connect cleanly with the floor. 💡
Anticipation Is Everything 🎯
The Toe Heel Toe starts on count 8, not count 1. It's tempting to wait, but if you wait you're already late. Count actively. Anticipate that entry point. This is where counting discipline pays off.
The Learning Curve
Start: count every single beat, walk it slowly.
Goal: you only need to think about hitting the 8. The rest flows automatically.
Drill it relentlessly. Muscle memory takes over. ✅
🧠 This step trips everyone up at first. The brain isn't used to dancing on the "silent" beats. Keep counting, keep drilling. One day it just clicks.
