What This Module Trains π―
This module levels up our crosses.
The Move π§
- Crossover. The Crossover is our basic crosses made even faster by syncopating them, so where in Salsa it would usually be 1 2 3 5 6 7, here we step on 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7.
- We are not crossing fully. The twist does it: twist the hips the other way until the stepping leg covers the back leg.
- Practise the crosses on 5 6 7 8, then put them on 6 and 7 and 8 and 1 2 3.
How the Drill Runs π
- Crossover, go! Front view on the music, arms shown once.
- Let's go to the back. Same from the back view.
- Last one: a fast twist to finish.
Technique Cues π‘
- Use those hips. Otherwise it is too fast.
- Step on your toe, not flat.
- Twist on every syncopation count.
- Prepare the five: 4 and 5.
π‘ Drill it: Twist against the wall until the hips move on their own, then run the crosses slow before you speed up.
π― Community
Practice without judging yourself. Every dancer started exactly where you are. Be patient. This lands in the body over months, not days. Record yourself. You will see things you cannot feel. Post it in the community tab, or on Instagram tagging the page.
