West Coast Salsa built on the heavy European "On1" downbeat, injected with Hollywood theatricality, Lindy Hop acrobatics, aerials, and driving forward momentum. Its downbeat emphasis drew on the Cumbia background of many Mexican-American and Central American LA dancers.
