Montuno

Definition

The open-ended, repetitive, syncopated vamp section of a song where singers improvised and dancers could finally let loose. In a Mambo arrangement the piano drives an aggressive repeating vamp here as the cowbell drops in; Arsenio Rodriguez expanded this section.
