What This Module Trains 🎯
Toe Taps. When you look at the skeleton it is literally just a tap tap tap, just like your Mambo taps.
The Move 🧠
Lesson 1. The toe tap with the groove.
- Steps: 5 6 7, 8 and 1 2 3. Step tap, step tap.
- Mambo taps. Mambo taps are 1 2 3 4, it is the exact same move, but in Mambo taps we tend to stay very upright. Here we groove, this is Boogaloo.
Lesson 2. The toe tap with a Ronde.
- Steps: 8 and 1 2 3, 4 and 5 6 7. The 7 preps the Ronde.
- Finish the Ronde on the diagonal, then Cha Cha Cha into two toe taps.
How the Drill Runs 🔁
- Just the steps, no groove.
- The same steps, grooved.
- Then the Ronde version, grooved.
Technique Cues 💡
- Chest forward, head back.
- Opposite shoulder to the tapping leg, and turn that leg out.
- Down on the 1 and the 5, like diving.
- Keep it small, and groove it.
💡 Drill it: Get the plain step tap clean, then the groove, then the down on the 1 and the 5, and only then the Ronde.
🎯 Community
Practice without judging yourself. Every dancer started exactly where you are. Be patient. This lands in the body over months, not days. Record yourself. You will see things you cannot feel. Post it in the community tab, or on Instagram tagging the page.
