Wrap and Walk

Also called: the walk, unwrap, wrap

Definition

Instead of crossing and going to the other side like an Enchufa, you stay on this side and walk back with her. Keep hold of both hands and give her an Enchufa. The left comes on top.

A Move For Slowing Down πŸŒ™

Not everything has to be a turn. The wrap and walk is a simpler move, and its job is to bring the temperature down.

When you feel like you are doing a lot of turns, a lot of Pattern, a lot of crazy stuff, you can slow it down a little with this one.

That is a real skill. A dance that is all fireworks gets tiring to follow.

Where It Comes From πŸ”

Start from a parallel handhold and begin something that feels like an Enchufa, but do not finish it the usual way.

Instead of crossing and going to the other side like an Enchufa, you stay on this side and walk back with her.

The shape is 5 6 7, one, Breakback, 5 6 7, get out of the way, bring her towards you, and step back with her. You end up walking behind her, in a shadow position.

The Wrap 🎁

From there:

Keep hold of both hands and give her an Enchufa. The left comes on top.

That is the wrap. To come out of it later, you unwrap her.

Following While You Lead πŸ‘£

This is the part people get wrong.

  • create the space and let her go
  • then follow at the same time as you are leading her

If she is making bigger steps, you go with her.

You are behind her, so she sets the size of the walk, not you. Stay with her and it works. Try to hold your own step size and it falls apart.

The Second Version πŸŒ—

The same move again, but entered from a shadow position. Start with a cross left, left on top, and everything else is the same.

The Walk 🚢

From either entry there are lots of options, and one of them is called the walk.

It is a walk forward on 1 2 3.

The Lead can also do open, cross, back, open. Either way the important thing is the same as before, that you follow her and go with her.

Coming back in, you give her half a Left Turn, and that becomes a Right Turn. On 7 you come back into the line.

Two Small Things That Matter πŸ‘€

Look at each other while you are doing this, and stay close.

Once it is comfortable, put it together with the Breakback and run the whole thing.

πŸ’‘ Drill it: Do it once deliberately slowly. This move only reads as elegant if you are genuinely matching her walk instead of dragging her through yours.
